Carved Contemporary Flintlock "Mini Jaeger" Rifle
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)
.40 caliber. 32" octagonal to round barrel. SN: NSN. Finish left in the white. Walnut stock is carved with ornate rococo scroll and incised lines to grip and forearm. Flintlock rifle with adjustable cast brass diopter tang sight, notch rear sight, and brass blade front sight. Stock features ornate wax-cast brass fittings with rococo and grotesque beast motifs, as well as carved stag horn forend and inlay to top of wrist. Item features a sling loop to forearm and cast brass sling stud to bottom edge of butt, with patchbox on right side. Includes red wood ramrod with brass tip and a brown leather sling. Item is described in gunmaker's notes as being a "mini" jaeger rifle with a mini flint lock, therefore smaller flints will need to be fashioned in order to use. Lock is without flint and jaws are currently fitted with a small block of wood.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition
Good to very good. Bore is bright. Barrel shows sprinkled pit marks, light scratches, and some patination overall. Wood stock is in good condition. Action is functional.
