Description
Lot of Four Brass Powder Flasks
1.) 8.75" long copper and brass peace flask mounting brass spout marked N.P. AMES/1838. Item features triangular brass loops and is struck with the WS initials at the neck. Embossed body features a {US Eagle} above {Joining hands surrounded by stars} and finally a panoply of arms. Eagle is looking to its right, and the joined hands are surrounded by 26 stars.
2.) 8.75" long copper and brass peace flask with replaced spout held fast by iron screws and marked BATTY 1850. Neck of the flask is without further marks, and the body features the embossed "Peace Flask" design similar to item 1 but with the eagle looking over its left shoulder and the panoply of arms featuring two draped flags. Mounts circular loops.
3.) 4.75" long copper and brass powder flask displaying a {US Eagle/Crossed Colts/E PLURIBUS UNUM banner} to both sides with 13 stars. Spout is unsigned, and is missing the brass operating lever.
4.) 4.75" long copper and brass powder flask with a design similar to item 3 to one side of the flask only. Spout is unsigned, and has lost its fastening rivets.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition
1.) Very Good. Item is tarnished overall with some light dents along the body and oxidation on the iron rivets. Body of the flask shows excess lead from re-soldering, and the US initials to the panoply of arms have been worn down. Lower edge of the screw-on spout has split off, causing an uneven fit.2.) Good as Respouted. Item shows some tarnish and light dents overall, with spout missing its measure. Spout shows some black enamel residue with tarnish overall.3.) Good. Spring is oxidized with item showing tarnish overall. Remnants of a black finish to one side with the other bare. Fine details to the embossed design have worn down.4.) Good. Tarnish and oxidation overall with some light indentations and scratches. The spring shows some flecked oxidation. Fine details on the embossed figure are worn down.
