A 12k gold Mourning Jewelry pendant. Circa 1795. Gold pendant with checkered two colored hair and "JML" monogram. Inscribed on back "John & Mary Lawrence/ Obit. 1795-1782." Tested 12K gold. Includes leather case. 42.61 grams. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2".In remembrance of John Lawrence (1709-1795) and Mary Willet (Hartshorne) Lawrence (1714-1782) of Middletown, New Jersey. John Lawrence in 1743 as surveyor-general created the "Lawrence Line." John Lawrence was the uncle of Captain James Lawrence commander of the USS Chesapeake during the War of 1812.
