Description
Federal Mahogany, Mahogany-veneer, and Pine Pembroke Table, attributed to John (c. 1738-1818) and Thomas Seymour (1771-1848), Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1810. Rectangular mahogany top rule-jointed to hinged falling leaves with round corners that open to form square table surface with continuous reeded border, supported by a set of carved birch bracket supports knuckle-hinged to each outer rail, which is laminated to in inner apron of pine, incurved at both ends, one with a scratch-beaded mahogany-veneered pine stretcher supported by quarter-round glue blocks, and one containing a dovetailed pine drawer with mahogany-veneered front centering a period stamped brass escutcheon and handle impressed 'IH', resting on a conforming veneered birch rail blind-dovetailed (later reinforced with screws), and runners tacked, to inner apron rails, which are also joined to four robust blocked, turned, and reeded legs that taper sharply above inverted-baluster and ball feet, (imperfections, refinished), closed, 50cm wide, 93cm deep, 71cm high (20in wide, 37 7/8in deep, 28 3/8in high).
