United States, ca. early to mid-20 century CE. An antique George Washington Presidential Peace medal cast from bronze. On the obverse is a portrait of George Washington, the inscription surrounding "George Washington President of the United States 1789." The reverse shows crossed pipe and axe pipe (tomahawk), clasped hands, and inscription "Peace and Friendship." Pierced at the top for suspension and was once attached to the velvet and cotton lined neck ribbon, that has a tag for the Cincinnati Regalia Company, a manufacturer of banners, flags, and uniforms for military and parade. The sash was added and is not original to the medallion and likely dates to the 1930s to 1950s. Please note, these medals are often misattributed to 1789 or 1800s CE- however, the bronze medal type with Washington in profile was not designed until circa 1903 CE. Dark patina and toning throughout. Wear to edge of medal and small green oxidation. Medal is no longer attached to velvet ribbon, but can easily be resewn. Fraying to sequins on button and minor discoloration to cloth. Likely worn as a parade uniform.
