Description
Asia, Japan, late Edo to early Meiji period, ca. 19th century. A fine pair of brass candlesticks known as shokudai with circular, flower-form bases, long necks that appear as a series of tubular rods, undulating peripheries topped with brass floral tops and circular brass candle-holders. Each unpolished in recent years and with mellow golden patina. The pair comes in the original wooden box stenciled with "One Pair, Big Brass Chrysanthemum Lanterns. " Size of lamps: 5.75" W x 22.5" H (14.6 cm x 57.2 cm). Size of box: 14" W x 26.5" H (35.6 cm x 67.3 cm)
