Item Details
Description
The terracotta field is centered by a large pale blue pointed square medallion displaying an ivory flower head centerpiece having pale blue stepped pendants at each end with angular vines linked to palmettes and rhombus medallions ending in serrated leaves, the corners of the field with ivory and terracotta pendant and vine spandrels. The whole is framed by a light saffron border enclosing continuous turtle palmettes having angular vines ending in serrated leaves. The outstanding saffron border, a feature of finer quality 'Heriz' carpets, along with the finer weave typical of older examples and the quality overall execution suggest the 'Serapi' classification for this carpet. This is a good example of type and origin.
