A hand carved wooden polychrome lady's head, probably part of a ship's figurehead, early 19th century. Some losses to the back of head, some paint losses, and darkening of the varnish overcoat, otherwise good condition. Measures 6"H x 4 1/2"D x 4"W. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
