Embroidered Velvet Square Cover, India, 19th C. This silk velvet embroidered textile, adorned with intricate metal thread, exemplifies the opulence of Mughal textiles. Initially commissioned by Maharajas and their courtiers to embellish tents and equestrian furnishings, these textiles gained popularity in the 19th century. They were subsequently embraced not only by British colonialists but also by the burgeoning Indian middle class. Size: 47'' x 47'' (119 x 119 cm). Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
