Sindh Red Ground Shawl (Small Flowers), Pakistan, Early/Mid 20th C. This head cover (abochhini) is adorned with silk embroidery on a cotton base. Traditionally worn by married women in Northwest India and the Sindh province of Pakistan as part of the dowry, the red cotton ground features black and white round abstracted flowers throughout the field. The top and bottom borders are embellished with bunches of flowers separated by smaller geometric borders. The techniques employed include both chain and Sindhi-stitch, a combination of satin and buttonhole stitches, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of this cultural textile.
