Description
The handle on this walking stick is stunning with all hand engraved floral - vines designs throughout with a presentation shield space that is inscribed "Presented / To / Louis Sommer / By The Enterprise Pleasure Club / Yonkers / July 29th 1890" The shaft of the cane appears to be Ebony wood with a German silver ferrell holding a hard metal flat ground contact tip. A very high quality made cane. The length of the cane measures 36-3/4" overall. The handle appears to be gold filled at the very least, it measures 3-1/4" tall x 3-3/4" long and has a seam in the center length indicating it was a two piece handle. This is nicer than any Handel Company made cane we have seen and may be a Tiffany Company made version. The Sommer family of New York were reported to be friends and neighbors of the Rockefeller family.
