Description
"Untitled" original artwork by listed artist Giacomo Franchini. Glass worker, son of Giovanni Battista Franchini. Giacomo (often known at the time as Jacopo, the more traditional form of the name) worked with his father on the development of millefiori canes, incorporating figurative designs as well as floral patterns. His is best known for his miniature portraits of the heroes on the Risorgimento – Cavour, Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel II – as well as Napoleon III and Emperor Franz Joseph. Suffering from mental illness, purportedly in part from working on such a small scale, he was confined to an asylum in 1863 for the rest of his life.
