Brought back from WW2, this sword is a Shinto katana from the well-known Edo Ishido school of swordsmith. The blade is in excellent condition and has a length of 26.5 inches (67 cm). The blade features a well-grained itame hada that mixes with a burl mokume hada. The hamon is present the length of the blade through the kissaki where it ends in a midare boshi. The tang is mumei or unsigned and ubu, or unshortened. Based on the length and shape, the sword looks to date to ca. 1600s (Early Edo). Based on the workmanship, the sword looks to have come from a Shinto school such as Edo Ishido school which were famous for replicating the Bizen-style from previous eras. The samurai mountings (koshirae) dates from WW2 and are in excellent condition. The tsuka features a green silk ito and custom menuki, the tsuba is iron and very nice, the saya is wood lacquered black with a fine textured design. The saya is missing the kurikata. Circa 1600-1650. Sword in saya measures 40.5 inches L. N.B. Sword stand does not come with lot.
