Description
A vintage oil painting on masonite board after the original oil and tempera on canvas mounted on cardboard, Around the Fish, 1926, by Paul Klee, Swiss born, German, 1879 to 1940. Signed, Klee, and dated, upper left. Framed. Titled, Around the Fish, on the backside. This cryptic painting, in which a constellation of free floating objects and symbols orbit an elaborately detailed fish, was among several of his works that the Nazi government included in their official degenerate art exhibitions. Yet it was precisely these qualities, the emulation of childrens art, the collage like approach to building pictures, and the resistance to interpretation that had attracted the Surrealists to Klees witty, lyrical artworks a decade earlier. One of a kind artwork.
Dimensions: Framed 25 x 31 in. All measurements are approximate.
