SUZUKI KANJI (b.1921) was born in Morioka, Japan, and was the eldest son of Suzuki Morihisa, who specialized in kettle casting. Kanji studied at Tokyo Art School under Katori Hotsuma before returning home to become a teacher. He exhibited regularly at the Nitten national exhibition and succeeded his father in 1982. Kanji's work combines traditional motifs with a modernistic sculptural sensibility.
