Mickey Spillane Signed Pulp Noir Classic "I, The Jury," Later Printing
It's all here, colorful and salacious! A paperback copy of Frank Morrison "Mickey" Spillane (1918-2006), "I, The Jury" (New York: Signet Book, 1952), Signet #699, signed and inscribed by the author on the inside of the front cover as "for Karl Heck - / a fan who keeps / my books in print / for a long time! / Enjoy the autumn! / Mickey / Spillane." A later printing stated 21st printing (May 1952) on the copyright page. Expected wear including even toning within. A slight crack to the binding between pages 6 and 7. The covers and spine are in remarkably good condition with only isolated minor shelf rubbing. Else near fine. 160pp. 4.125" x 7" x .375."
Spillane had been writing short stories for comic books and pulp magazines, as well as novels, since the 1940s. Spillane's first major novel "I, The Jury" was published in 1947, and introduced his serial protagonist, detective Mike Hammer. Hammer would appear in twelve other novels published up until 1997. The Mike Hammer series was incredibly popular, and the many printings of Spillane's stories testify to the books' staying power.
