A WHITE JADE 'DEER AND CRANE' SNUFF BOTTLE, MID-QING DYNASTY 清代中期白玉《鶴鹿同春》鼻煙壺

China, c. 1750-1850. The flattened baluster body supported on a short spreading foot with a concave base and rising to a rounded shoulder with a gently flared neck. Finely carved in low relief with a stag walking through a meadow with its head turned back, a lingzhi sprouting from the grassy groud beside the deer. A crane roosts in the tallest branch of a towering pine tree while a single bat flies nearby. The translucent jade of a white tone with icy and cloudy inclusions.

Provenance: The property of a gentleman in London, United Kingdom. Bonhams London, 5 November 2020, lot 233. A private collection in France, acquired from the above.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear and slight nibbling to the edges. The jade with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.

This snuff bottle is filled with auspicious imagery. The stag and lingzhi recall the mushroom of immortality, which could only be retrieved by a deer. The bat, pine, and crane are likewise symbols of longevity and prosperity.

中國，約1750-1850年。壺口外撇，短頸，豐肩，腹内斂，圈足。淺浮雕鶴鹿同春圖：一隻雄鹿回頭，草地上長出了一株靈芝。一隻鶴棲息在一棵高聳的松樹上，一隻蝙蝠在附近飛翔。半透明白色玉，內含絮狀物。

品相：狀況良好，有輕微磨損和邊緣輕微磕損。玉石具有天然内沁和裂隙的，有的可能發展成細小的裂紋。
