Measures approximately 8 1/2" x 11 1/2"
With margins 10" x 16"
Overall fair condition. Small tear on left margin.
Mark Catesby (1683 -1749) who became known as the father of American Ornithology, was a naturalist sent over at the request of Queen Caroline to do the birds of the Carolinas in America 1710-1719 and again from 1722-1726. To ensure that the plates in his book should be true to life, he learned to engrave, and did the plates for his book, "The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and Bahama Islands" which was published from 1731 to 1743.
