Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Central Asia, Afghanistan / Turkmenistan region, Bactria-Margiana (Oxus Civilization), Bronze Age, ca. 3000 to 1500 BCEA stamp seal cast from a leaded bronze or copper alloy into a swastika shape with a ring suspension handle. The swastika is an age old good luck symbol appropriated to darker meaning in the twentieth century, but originally the revolving arms represented the sun, infinity, or creation. Researchers have various theories on how these stamps were used, including markers for individuals or ownership - however due to repeated patterns in seals - it more likely the patterns were shared symbols of power or protection rather than markers of individuals. Size: 1" L x 1" W x 1" H (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
