Middle East, Saudi Arabia or Yemen, Bedouin culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful brass collar necklace known as a kirdala, a traditional piece for Bedouin women. The piece is hand-made with a choker band decorated with geometric patterns, bezels containing enamel beads, and a hook wire clasp. Bicone and spherical beads dangle and tinkle from loops to announce the wearer's presence. It was customary for a Bedouin woman to receive jewelry the day she married.
