Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Greece, Geometric Period, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. This is a collection of six bronze objects, cast into amulets, pendants, or tools. The disc shaped medallion with a spoked wheel shape has an integral loop at the top for suspension, and concentric circles incised upon the face, similarly the petaloid piece with a short tang has similar etched motifs and two piercings for suspension - the circles are believed to be a ward against the evil eye. The two double spirals present coiled wires, emerging from the upper end of a flattened stem, with a rolled tip that forms a suspension loop. The bird shaped piece has a pierced neck for suspension and may have been the finial handle to a stamp seal. The final piece is a thick ring with four tabs- perhaps a piece of riding tack or other piece of equipment. Size (largest ring): 1.3" Diameter (3.3 cm); (smaller double spiral): 1" L x 1.2" W (2.5 cm x 3 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
