Description
1931 Norse Mythology 1ed Siegfried Baldwin Wagner Ring Nibelung Viking Legend
James Baldwins “The Story of Siegfried” draws from ancient Nordic tales and myths, narrating the adventures of the heroic figure, Siegfried, in a world where nature and myth intertwine. The book, steeped in poetic allegories, offers explanations for the natural phenomena through the lens of enchanting stories featuring gods and heroes that embody elements of nature. Baldwin, integrates various sources, including the “Elder Edda” and “Younger Edda,” and his own creative imagination to craft a narrative that maintains the heart of the ancient myth while presenting it in a fresh, accessible manner.
This edition was the first to be illustrated by Peter Hurd who, displaying a blend of historic and mythical elements, provided full-page color plates as well as pictorial front cover. Notably, both Baldwin and Hurd were influenced by Richard Wagners “Ring of the Nibelung” and its artwork by the esteemed, Arthur Rackham.
