Description
Near East/Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 6th to 10th century CE. A gorgeous limestone relief panel with openwork at its center and an ornate floral motif. The rectangular panel was likely made to be part of a tomb or architectural feature. It has a high relief ovoid at its center with spiral-shaped flowers extending from its corners. The ovoid forms a ring around the openwork, which is a repeated leaf carving. A large and beautifully preserved reminder of Byzantine stone work and artistry! Size: 3.1" L x 25.5" W x 18.25" H (7.9 cm x 64.8 cm x 46.4 cm)
