A striking pair of paintings each depicting a cowboy scene in the American West by artist Tom Grice. The first displays a mustached cowboy on horseback facing left. Posing majestically, his profile towers over the low ground of the sprawling prairie, a sandy land dotted by scattered tufts of grass as purple mountains rise in the far distance. Alternatively, the second painting portrays a cattleman at work, herding a group of oxen who inhabit the foreground, the cowboy himself shown in the midground, acting as a boundary between the roaming livestock and the great American West. Grice rendered the western landscape, replete with desert brush and big sky, in shades of azure, peach, lavender, sienna, and sage - a brilliant color palette inspired by the Taos School. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Tom Grice was a longtime resident of Groves, Texas. He was an exceptional artist as well as a beloved barber who owned The Studio in Groves. In addition, Grice was a respected US Army veteran.

Painting with cowboy in profile is signed in lower right; other painting is inscribed with artist's name and "Groves, TX" on verso. Both are in overall excellent condition and set in custom wooden frames with suspension wire on verso for display.
