One-of-a-kind hand painted clay masks from central Africa. I bought these from a travelling trader while living in Zimbabwe in the early 1980's and don't remember exactly where they were created. They were old when I bought them 40 years ago so I cannot give a good estimate of when they were created.They are hand made, somewhat roughly, likely outdoors, and are creatively painted with natural pigments. Many of them have grasses woven through small holes in the mask. Some of them have a wire connected in the back for hanging. One of the photos shows the back of a mask so you can get an idea of what it looks like. This photo is a generic photo and not necessarily of the masks shown for sale in this lot. Masks vary in size from H 6" - 7 1/2" W 4" - 6" D 3" - 3 1/2"
