Description
A diorama with Japanese hina dolls. Heisei period, 1990s. Multi-figure scene representing the coronation of Emperor Akihito, born 1933, the 125th Emperor of Japan who ruled from 1989 until his abdication in 2019. Hand-painted ceramic bodies dressed in traditional jacquard fabric clothing, palace interior scenery. Electric lamp, built-in musical mechanism. Japan Hina Doll Association label sticker is preserved. Hinamatsuri, also called Dolls Day, is a religious holiday in Japan, celebrated on 3 March of each year. Platforms covered with a red carpet–material are used to display a set of dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.
