Edo period, carved in a folk style for a local Shinto shrine most likely from the northern region of Lake Biwa, posed seated with the heads turned, one with an open mouth, both with grooves to secure the now missing back legs, ears and mane, the bodies painted in an orange red with blue and white detailing on the mouth, eyes and front feet
