Item Details
Description
Unique copper trophy celebrating "Prestige" the race horse who ran undefeated in France 1905-1906. Owned by William K. Vanderbilt after its breeder Jules Ravaut died, the horse was trained by William B. Duke. In 1905, as a two year old, and in 1906, as a three year old, his record was 16-0. In 1914 he was named the leading sire in France, living at Vanderbilt's Haras du Quesnay. Vanderbilt founded Haras du Quesnay, known as "Le Quesnay", in 1907, about four miles outside the city of Deauville. The trophy is copper; a 10 x 4 inch base has engraved all the races from 1905 & 1906. A fully plumed peacock 11 1/2 inches wide by 7 inches tall. The names of horses he beat are on each feather. A fascinating piece of horse racing history. France
