The round collar with white, dark blue, and light blue silk embroidered bands, including gold thread and butterfly motif; the circle continuing to a hanging scalloped-edge panel. Neck circumference 13in; diam. of collar 17in; full length 26in. Condition: Overall good; some soiling/discoloring, mostly to neck and white silk, and back lining; a few loose threads/losses, mostly to outer border. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
