Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 18th century CE. A cast-brass statue of Buddha seated with crossed legs in a dignified posture, wearing a minimalist robe adorned in brass leaf, and holding his hands in Bhumisparsha mudra - the "earth witness" gesture, one of the most iconic poses of Buddhism. His head bears ovoid eyes beneath thick brows, a pronounced nose with a sharp nasal ridge, thick lips curled into a slight smile, lengthy ear lobes, and a coiffure adorned in nodules as well as topped with a flaming ushnisha. The Buddha sits atop a separate brass lotus flower base with openwork legs, lobed clouds, and additional brass leaf. Size (Buddha): 7" L x 11.25" W x 17.125" H (17.8 cm x 28.6 cm x 43.5 cm); (on base): 10" L x 14.5" W x 24.5" H (25.4 cm x 36.8 cm x 62.2 cm)

Condition
Small area of repair and restoration around base, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions to brass leaf and surfaces, with light earthen deposits, and light encrustations, otherwise in excellent condition. Great patina throughout. Base is intact and excellent as well.
