Description
An antique 19th century German theodolite for land measurements. The complex measuring instrument that includes a spotting scope on a stand with variable height, a compass and other technical devices. Original lacquered and black finished brass. The inscription in German is engraved on the case. Theodolite is an optical instrument for measuring angles between designated visible points in the horizontal and vertical planes. The traditional use has been for land surveying, but it is also used extensively for building and infrastructure construction, and some specialized applications such as meteorology and rocket launching.
