John Hamilton Mortimer, 1740 to 1779, British, etching and stipple engraving on thick, slightly textured, beige laid paper, Banditti, Bandits. Etched by Joseph Haynes, British, 1760 to 1829. Signed in the print, lower right and left. Published as the Act directs February 1780 by J. Mortimer Norfolk Street Strand and J. Boydell Cheapside. Titled and marked in the print, lower to the center. John Hamilton Mortimer was a British figure and landscape painter and printmaker, known for romantic paintings set in Italy, works depicting conversations, and works drawn in the 1770s portraying war scenes, similar to those of Salvator Rosa.
