Early photograph of Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein King of Jordan riding in a 1911-1912 Gaylord Car wearing official or military uniform (1910's to 1920's). The Gaylord Car made in Michigan in only the years 1911 or 1912 which is helpful in narrowing the age of this photo down. This photo was either taken by an American who was teaching in Saudi Arabia at the time who is the former owner or someone he acquired it from while teaching in Saudi Arabia or Yemen. He taught in both countries. Early pictures of King Abdullah I are rare. We couldnt find one of him at the age he appears in this photo. (From Brittanica) - Abdullah I (born 1882, Mecca - died July 20, 1951, Jerusalem) statesman who became the first ruler (1946-51) of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Abdullah, the second son of Hussein ibn Ali, the ruler of the Hejaz, was educated in Istanbul in what was then the Ottoman Empire. After the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, he represented Mecca in the Ottoman parliament. Early in 1914 he joined the Arab nationalist movement, which sought independence for Arab territories in the Ottoman Empire. In 1915-16 he played a leading role in clandestine negotiations between the British in Egypt and his father that led to the proclamation (June 10, 1916) of the Arab Revolt against the Ottomans. Photo measures 4 1/4" by 3" and comes in the frame it is pictured with 5 7/8" by 4 1/2".
