Item Details
Description
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A hand-built pottery vessel in the form of a basket with a pinched upper rim. Spanning above the pinched area is a strip of pottery that emulates the basket's 'handle', and the entire body is decorated with impressed grooves that imbue the exterior with a beehive appearance. Remains of black pigment and faint red pigment are visible in scattered areas and allude to how this vessel was decorated when first created. Size: 2.13" L x 1.93" W x 2.31" H (5.4 cm x 4.9 cm x 5.9 cm)

Exhibited at the Drexel Museum, Philadelphia, 1895 to 1914; with the Drexel Institute Collection, Minneapolis Museum of Art, 1915 to 1958, ref. no. 16.605; at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1998 to 2023, reference number EL01.088.1998.
