Description
Presented here for your consideration is a mid-century Hopi cylinder pot. The tall cylinder pottery pot was a familiar form to the Pueblo as their ancestors living at Chaco Canyon had made it. A cache of Chaco Canyon cylinder pots were found to have been used for drinking chocolate. Hopi potters transformed the ancient cylinder shape for the tourist trade. This pot exemplifies traditional Hopi design with tall, thin features rising from the vessel's base to culminate with inward curving semicircular forms. Horizontal decorative lines appear just below the rim. The artist worked this magic using typical black pigment for most of the design with two sections in white. The design rests on very nice orange slip. A beautiful piece of Hopi pottery that you ought to add to your collection. Bid now!
Hopi pottery is known for its traditional designs and for being completely handmade. It is the yellow to dark orange hues of Hopi pottery that distinguishes it from the other Pueblos. This is a nice vintage example of traditional Hopi pottery, make it yours today!
