Well what can I say about this piece that photos don't? Not a whole lot! If you're looking at this piece, you likely know exactly what it is - made in 1891, this is an extremely fine ewer cut by J. Hoare in what is arguably the most desirable design from the Brilliant Period - Wedding Ring - also known officially as Crystal City. One look at this pattern and it's obvious why it's so collectible - it's completely mesmerizing. Rings of clear tusk, cane, and clear tusks with notching on either side not only weave amongst each other, but also, every other circle, the cane band changes to the tusk framed by notching. It's just captivating. To top it all off, this piece has the most gorgeous Gorham silver flip top lid, spout, and handle heavily decorated repoussé work. The piece itself is slightly ovoid in shape which makes the view from the side particularly of interest because you can see the entire pattern from one side. The base is covered in an old J. Hoare star, also ovoid to fit the shape. Unlike some of the older J. Hoare glass, this glass is completely flawless and free of color - no grayness or yellowing, just water white glass. And the best part about this ewer is its unquestionable authenticity with this blank and silver! Genuine pieces in this pattern are hard to come by and ones this nice are nearly nonexistent.
