Description
This ancient Egyptian steatite sculpture represents Anubis, the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife. Rendered in the distinctive blue-black hue of steatite, the figure is seated in a vigilant pose, symbolizing its role as the protector of graves. The craftsmanship of the Late Period is evident in the figure's stylized features and the smooth contours of the body. Anubis was a critical deity in the Egyptian pantheon, serving as a guide for souls transitioning to the afterlife, and this artifact may have been an integral part of funerary rites. Its diminutive size suggests it could have been placed within a tomb as a guardian or used in personal worship.
