Description
This finely carved limestone scarab seal reflects the exquisite craftsmanship of the New Kingdom period in ancient Egypt. A symbol of rebirth and regeneration, the scarab was sacred to the sun god Ra. This particular piece, measuring 3.5 cm by 2.5 cm, features intricately carved hieroglyphs on its underside, which may have served as a personal seal for a noble or a high-ranking official. The top is skillfully modeled to represent the beetle with detailed wing cases, head, and legs, suggesting it was not merely a functional item but also a work of art. Such seals were often used to make impressions in clay or wax, serving as a signature and asserting ownership or authorship.
