Born in 1903 in Georgia, his father, Grigol Varlamishvili, was a prominent financier and public figure. Felix was good at painting and at playing the piano, violin and harp. He was also keen on poetry. The artist's mother, Rosa Paliashvili, was a highly virtuous and honorable woman, skilled in needlework. She died at an early age, leaving Felix in her sister's care. in 1928, the painter traveled abroad to enhance his knowledge. First he arrived in Istanbul, worked there for a while and afterwards went to Paris, where painters from various countries gathered. At first, Varlamishvili worked in the famous Atelier de Regel for around two years. In 1933, he displayed his paintings for the first time in a small gallery of Paris called Speranza (Hope). In 1934 he married a Danish painter Zire Binder. In 1945 Varlamishili joined the Salon d'Automne on a permanent basis. Soon he became a jury member and could exhibit his paintings hors concourse.
