Description
Featured in this lot is this rare sign advertising Lakeshore Estates: Cottage Sites for Sale. What makes this sign unique is the second line, "Open to Negroes". This sign is believed to be from the post WWII prosperity era of the early 1950's. The fact that this "development" was advertising to include Negroes is a sign of the changing times in Mississippi. The sign advertises swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, and cottage sites for sale. The sign is on heavy card stock and measures 14" L x 11" W. There is staining and fading to the sign and a slight tear on the left side but no other signs of damage are present.
