Featured in this lot is this Papago Tohono O'odham polychrome bear grass basket circa 1940's. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bear grass construction that shows polychrome construction that shows a layer of triangular geometric patterns with a three coil layer of red coloration from natural dyes and sprits of naturally dyed coloration that shows a rim of chevron weave that accentuates the design of the serving basket. The Tohono O'odham or Papago are a Native American people of the Sonoran Desert, residing primarily in the U.S. state of Arizona and the northern Mexican state of Sonora. The federally recognized tribe is known in the United States as the Tohono O'odham Nation. The condition of this serving basket is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this serving basket is 2" x 13 1/4" x 13 1/4". The collective weight of this basket is 14oz.
