During her time at the Bauhaus from 1923 to 1928, Lucia Moholy was a prominent photographer who documented the architecture and products designed within. Often uncredited and therefore unrecognized, her straightforward imagery helped to define the visual identity of the school. With the rise of the Nazi Party, Moholy fled Germany in 1933, leaving her archive of glass-plate negatives behind. In the ensuing decades, her photographs were reproduced without credit in a variety of venues that promoted the Bauhaus aesthetic. After years of attempting to reclaim her negatives, founder of the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius admitted to having them in his possession and had no intention of returning them. While Moholy succeeded in reclaiming possession of her negatives through legal action, rewriting her influence on the history of the Bauhaus remains.
