Collection of Antique Middle Eastern Silk Velvet Textiles
the first two Ottoman yastik textiles (Bursa or Istanbul), 19th c., silk on wool foundation, of similar design with green and light brown velvet pile forming a central latticed medallion with floral and foliate motifs all around, in cartouche shaped border, with outer floral border (major pile loss, fading, holes, old repairs, fraying) (22 x 38 in. and 22.5 x 37 in.); the third probably Ottoman, 18th or 19th c., with stripes of green, magenta, and navy velvet pile forming an abstracted foliate design with a center lattice medallion, with added ties for hanging (major pile loss, discoloration, fading, fraying) (19 x 31.5 in.); the fourth Iranian, 19th c., silk, fragment with three central stripes of green velvet, borders of green and white velvet ikat design, and ends with red velvet ikat, later fabric hanging panel sewn to back (major pile loss, discoloration, holes, extensive old repairs, brittleness, fraying, fading) (23 x 32.75 in.).
