Armin Landeck (American, 1905-1984), New York Scene

watercolor and gouache on paper, signed at lower left, matted and framed under glass.
Sheet sight 12 x 10 in. Frame dimensions 19 x 17 in.
Armin Landeck was born in Wisconsin and studied at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (B.A.), and Columbia University (M.A.). While in New York, he took classes at the Art Students League and began experimenting with printmaking, studying briefly at the Atelier 17 with Stanley Hayter.

In the 1930s, he opened the School of Printmakers with Martin Lewis. He was a member of the Society of American Etchers and was elected to the National Academy of Design. His work is included in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art; the Library of Congress; the Swedish National Museum; and the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, Berlin.
