Description
This is an amazing specimen, with provenance! This is a presentation lantern, given to O.F. Holbrook, a conductor on the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Chrome plated, it is manufactured by the Adams and Westlake Company in Chicago, IL, and has a hallmark on the bottom of the fount with a patent date of April 29, 1864. A green over clear globe is etched artistically with O.F. Holbrook. The consignor of this lantern was the widow of the former owner of a donut shop frequented by employees of the Burlington Northern in Missouri. The shop had a railroad theme and employees would bring the owner many railroad artifacts to furnish the shop. This item was provided by a railroad employee whose family was connected with Mr. Holbrook. It is an absolutely stunning piece that will become the highlight of any lantern collection, or a collection of CBQ related items!
