Lot 94: Vivienne Westwood | Fall 1999/2000 Evening Ensemble

A Vivienne Westwood Fall 1999/2000 evening ensemble comprised of a black velvet bustier and burgundy/black silk mermaid-style skirt.

Westwood's aesthetic of the 18th century, Rococo style, always relates to the label's punk ethos and opulent chaos. The black bustier is made from black cotton stretch velvet with a sweetheart neckline with a loose gathered basque waist bustier and a zip closure at the back. The interior of the bustier has elasticated nylon to support, lift, and define the bust and waist. The skirt is composed of a silk and satin with iridescent burgundy panels cut on the diagonal. The ensemble has a Vivienne Westwood Gold label, marked a US size 6, a UK size 10.

The ensemble comes with a pair of black stretch velvet elbow-length gloves, labeled Tally B New York. The gloves feature velvet-covered buttons accented throughout. 

Jerry Hall was pictured in a similar version of the ensemble in 2001, Hall was a muse for Westwood walking in many of the shows, most notably her fall 1996 show.
