Lot 35: Alexander Mcqueen | "The Girl Who Lived In The Tree" 2008 Runway Design
An Alexander McQueen evening dress with a silk-screen print of Queen Elizabeth II from the designer's 2008 collection "The Girl Who Lived In The Tree."
A strapless silk evening dress with a fitted bodice and bubble skirt. The interior of the bodice has a built-in-bustier with bra cups and bonning. The gown's silk screen print features Queen Elizabeth II with the British flag as the backdrop. The dress has a zip closure at the back and an internal zip closure for the interior bustier. The bodice has a sheer pale blue organza trim at the bust and hem of the dress. There is an Alexander McQueen label present, marked a size 42.
McQueen referenced construction techniques employed by Norman Hartnell and Hardy Aimes with their mid-century designs. These British couturiers were known for dressing the Windsor Royal Family. Hartnell designed both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret's wedding gowns.
McQueen describes the concept of his collection for Interview Magazine in 2008 saying, “[In this collection] she was a feral creature living in the tree. When she decided to descend to earth, she transformed into a princess.”
The model image features the Alexander McQueen dress styled with lot 34 (Stephen Jones Top Hat).
