As with most of Henry's work 'Watermelon Head' is simply designed and maserly executed in brown serpentine. Henry developed a singular style, attained at a level of technical mastery over his medium and a sophisticated approach to materials and themes. The subjects of his sculpture are biomorphic presented as an intersection of hard edged geometrical forms of softly rounded shapes. His highly stylized sculpture is identifiable by the reduction of their features to simple, geometrical and linear shapes. Henry remarks, "A lot of times I start off just with a stone and through the dialogue images come from the stone. After it’s finished I contemplate it and then I take from my experience in life and find a name for the sculpture". His images are derived through the refinement of the shape of the stone and through the insertion of a few lines to give the image definition. Whilst his earlier works were more rounded, organic and volumetric, they also demonstrated his extraordinary grasp of proportions, sense of balance and emotive power achieved through the use of minimal formal elements. His sculptures beautifully express contemplation and spirit. The interest of sculptural perfection dominates Henry's work within the scope of the subject matter.
