Description
Newspaper, ‘Goodhue County Republican’, 4pp., Minnesota, March 10, 1865, reporting on Lincoln’s second inaugural address and setting forth its contents. In part: ‘...On the occasion corresponding to this four years ago, all thoughts were anxiously directed to an impending civil war...One eighth of the whole population were colored slaves...Neither party expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it has already attained...With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us the work we are in, and bind up the national wounds and care for him who shall have born the battles, and for his widow and his orphans, to do all which that we may achieve and cherish a just, and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations...’. Marginal tears, else very good.
