Description
A rare, original map by noted surveyor and draughtsman CHARLES DE KRAFFT entitled 'A Map of Hampstead Hill within One Mile of Market Street, the City of Baltimore...', n.d. but ca. 1800. This map is finely executed in pen on a 10.5 x 15.75 in. brown sheet, with surveyor's drawing scale and annotations made in a tiny, precise hand and signed by Krafft at conclusion. Krafft (1752-1804) was a primary assistant to Pierre l'Enfant in the original surveying and mapping of Washington. He also made maps for Thomas Jefferson, Robert Morris and other notables of the time, later becoming the First City Surveyor of DC. Weakened, split folds, mounting traces to corners on verso, small holes at top right and left corners, otherwise good. Worthy of restoration.
